Feeling Like Yourself Again: How HRT Can Help with Menopause Symptoms
As you’ve gotten older, you may have had a growing sense of dread about menopause. Now you’re in this season, and the changes that come with it may be disrupting your life in several ways.
That includes the expected, like hot flashes, but it can also come with lesser-known changes. Menopause can take a toll on your mental health, for example.
Fortunately, we can help with all of this. With a treatment called hormone replacement therapy (HRT), Charis Trench-Simmons, MD, and Lorenza Simmons, MD, have a way to walk back the unwelcome alterations that come with menopause.
If you want to start feeling like yourself again, come see us at Prestige Healthcare OBGYN in Atlanta, Georgia.
Treating menopause at its source
The big upside of menopause is that you stop menstruating. Not having to carry pads, tampons, or a cup can be a welcome relief.
The big downside is the hormonal changes. As you go through menopause, your body stops making as much estrogen and progesterone. You can thank these dipping hormone levels (especially estrogen) for the majority of your unwanted menopausal symptoms.
Because a decrease in key hormones creates the physical and mental effects of menopause, the key lies in replenishing those hormones. With hormone replacement therapy, we have a way to do just that.
What to expect with hormone replacement therapy
Here at our office, Dr. Simmons or Dr. Trench-Simmons works with you to find the ideal balance of hormones for your body. That means finding both the right method of delivery and the right amount of estrogen and progesterone to replace what your body no longer makes.
We perform a blood test to evaluate your current hormone levels. That helps us determine the optimal dose of supplemental hormones for you.
Then, we help you choose a delivery method. For some women, oral supplements work best. For others, we recommend placing a tiny pellet just under the skin in your upper buttocks. The pellet releases a steady stream of hormones over time, bringing you back into balance.
Replacing the hormones your body no longer makes can help with a broad range of menopausal symptoms, including:
- Anxiousness
- Appetite changes
- Decreased libido
- Hair loss
- Hot flashes
- Sleep problems
- Sexual dysfunction
- Skin dryness
- Urinary symptoms
- Vaginal dryness
If you deal with any of the above, you’re not stuck in that discomfort. When you’re ready to start feeling like yourself again, call our office or book an appointment online today.
